September 2025

The events of the last few weeks have given us much to think about and require a response.

In the USA we have seen the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who spoke the name of Jesus Christ and took an increasingly unpopular biblical stand against the ever stronger current of mainstream culture. In our own country tens of thousands marched the streets of London calling for change. They are recognising the foundations of our nation eroding and feel powerless to do anything about it. But of the two events which one will have the most effect, which one will bring about a change?

It has struck me that the death of Charlie Kirk and the response to his life has not been without consequence. His life and death have made a difference. It has left me thinking of my own legacy, when I am gone what will they say of me? "He had it coming". "He was prepared to speak the unspeakable". "He made an impact." "He was relevant". "He made a difference."

Elijah stood between God's people and the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18, another man who made a difference. A man of consequence. He stood alone against the mainstream, against the loud repetitive voices of the age. I was greatly encouraged a number of years ago by a little verse in 1 Kings 19:

Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed the prophets of Baal with the sword. 1 Kings 19v1

As this passage of scripture goes on we see Elijah exhausted by the journey and hiding alone under a juniper bush. For many years we have sought to be a witness on our high street in Porthmadog, it has been at times lonely and costly. But we have seen an effect, standing against the increasingly powerful mainstream. How? With the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God - the Bible.

Nope, we haven't killed anyone or even wished anyone harm. There was the sword in the hand of Elijah and a change of the heart of the people as they shouted, "The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!". 1 Kings 18v39

So what and now what? We have, like Elijah, been given the sword to hold - the Word of God, to raise up in the midst of every other voice, to stand in the middle of the mainstream and proclaim "this is the only hope to the Everyman". "This is the only landscape changer". "This Word of God - the Bible, is the only light and hope for those who walk in the Dark".

Therefore, since we have so a great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and let us run the race set before us. Hebrews 12v1

What is this great cloud of witness? The word in the Greek is martys, of which Charlie Kirk may now be one. It's not the cloud on which they sit cheering us on but the shape of which we see them. They cannot be touched or offer any help, they have gone before, giving their lives and leaving an example, that we may now take up the baton. That we, like them, may be of consequence.

As for us at the Don't Walk In The Dark Project, and any of us, are we challenging the gates of Hell? Is what we invest our time in really a threat to Satan's schemes? Are we willing to stand alone amongst it all and raise up a light?

There is the challenge.

The Don't Walk In The Dark project is a call to the Church to wake up and strengthen the things that remain. The darkness has come upon us and without the Word of God we are without a light and hopelessly walk in the dark, blindly leading the blind. Goliath may be about to appear and we are an army without a sword facing the biggest of enemies.

Since 2022, we have taken the challenge ourselves and have begun to produce resources to challenge the Church to pick up their Bibles, read their Bibles and dare to live seperately according to its truths.

If we can help you to raise up the Word of God please get in touch, whether it's to talk about your project or the support you need. We have run a Bible outreach cafe for 20 years with the Word of God boldly at its centre and are not afraid to raise up the light in the public space. Or if you just like what we are doing, please do take a moment to get in touch.
