Help and hope

I will lift my eyes to the mountains; From where shall I help come my help come? My help comes  from the Lord who made the heavens and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip, He who keeps you will not slumber.  Psalm 121 v 1-3

When the lord left his disciples the holy spirt that was promised was to be a helper and a comforter. Reading the news, watching the weather and seeing bills rise confirms we are going to need a helper in the days ahead and with sorrow comes a need for a comforter.

But where does our help come from?

How Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob whose  Hope is in the Lord his God. Who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever.

Psalm 146v 5 doesn’t just offer help but a hope as well! And what do these two verses have in common? The help comes from the maker of heaven and earth .Is it no wonder as the world continues to question the who, the how, the why, the when, the what and the if God made, helplessness and hopelessness rise.

It’s the creator God who offers help and  hope in these days. The same Jesus who proclaims He is the first and last ( Rev 1 ) has bookended world history. He was there at the beginning fashioning man out of the mud, breathing life into him. The same Jesus that brought Lazarus to life, made the blind to see. Is the same Jesus that laid His hands on John at the beginning of the book of revelation with all its mystery’s and horrors, glory’s and world shifting events. We may feel unable in these days the creator Jesus offers a hand !

We may see more and more the events of the book of Revelation in our day. Let’s fix our eyes not on the mountains ( for that are moved by faith ) or on our hopeless Jacob type character ( for that is dealt with at Jabbok and characters are changed ) but on the Lord who in 6 days fashioned the landscape, filled the air and the seas, created the rhubarb and the avocado pear, the porcupine and praying mantis . And on the sixth day He breathed life in to mankind that they may live . Its this life giving breath of the holy spirt that offers hope and help today for the created that look to Almighty God our creator .  .

Now may the God of hope fill you with all Joy and Peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirt.  Roman 15 v 13
