Plumbing help in Psalm 46

Psalm 46 starts with good news for anyone watching the world at the moment

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change and though the mountains should slip into the  heart of the sea.  V 1-3

Because we really are seeing a great world shift as governments and groups restructure our economy and the way we live. Not fearing has to be a decision we make ,as we keep our eyes on the lord who is “present” at this time

But its verse 4 that should encourage anyone who has felt isolated or fears the future and wants to go on with the lord.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God.

It’s a strange river whose streams do anything! Because streams go into rivers not rivers into streams. Is not the river the main event?  Is the verse suggesting that those streams somehow flow into heaven and make it happy ? What if it wasn’t a river like the Thames, the Tyne or the Nile and the streams are not pleasant gurgling brooks that bubbled through the countryside. What if v 4 is talking about something much more Industrial.  What if a gardener has dug these for a purpose Isaiah 35 has come about as promised in the deserts of Jerusalem.

V 1 the wilderness and the desert will be glad and the Arabah ( desert ) will rejoice and blossom

V 6…. For waters will break forth in the wilderness and stream in the Arabah. The scorched land will be come a pool and the thirsty ground springs of water.

Google earth images show how it was done. With huge irrigation systems to bring dry places to life. A river with streams directed to dry places all engineered to bring life . Our church situations may become increasing isolating but the gardener has the means, and the ability  to get fresh living water to us where ever we are.

Psalm 1v 2-3  but his delight is in the law of the lord and in his law he mediates days and night . He will be like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in it’s season and its leaf does not wither and whatever he does he prospers .

And the city of God? Is that heaven ? The holy dwelling places of the most high has an ‘s’ so there’s more than one. They are outposts or far off lonely trees still green as they delight them selves I the word of God day and night . The city in psalm 46 could be defined even as just a tent . And qualifies as long as one stays awake as a watchman.

Gods great big living water plumbing project wil be essential in the days ahead with access to the living water of the holy spirt in dry, lonely and even isolated places, but God is there in the midst of her and she will be glad

So even though the earth is changing and the mountains are slipping into the heart of the sea.  Nations are in an uproar and kingdoms are tottering. There are tiny campsites of twos and threes gathered together, firmly planted, leaves green, bearing fruit, delighting on the word of God, plumbing sorted and God is in their midst .
